Best Carry Bags For Your Bodysurfing Handboard

When it comes to storing and transporting your handboard there is no way more convenient and safe than using a handboard bag. This will protect your board and make it super easy to tote around town or when you fly.

What is the best bodysurfing handboard bag? Here are some popular choices to carry your handplane.

  • Slyde handboard bag
  • Drawstring bag
  • Backpack/Daypack
  • Duffle bag

There are both advantages and disadvantages to the travel bags listed here. This guide should help you determine which is best for your board.

Slyde Board Bag

This carry case is shaped to fit a Slyde handboard but will also work for other handboard brands. There is a front compartment to put your keys, wax, wallet, and phone. The exterior of the bag is waterproof so you don’t have to worry about your phone and other belongings getting waterlogged.

One of the best features of the SLYDE hand board bag is the the the thin size and shoulder strap for travelling. This is a minimalist carry case so will not take up much room and hardly weighs anything at all. The shoulder strap is very comfortable and never gets tangled.

This handboard is very popular and highly recommended if you are serious about protecting your board. You will find yourself using it more than you thought. Check out the video below to get a better understanding of what it looks like, the quality material, how your board will fit, and the storage compartments.

*The only downside to this bag is that it is only large enough to hold one board. If the surf calls for a few options, you will only be able to choose one, unless you bring another bag.

Slyde handboard bag dimensions

Length = 25 in

Width = 12.5 in

The shoulder strap measure 3.5 feet long but can be adjusted to fit your desired length for maximum comfort and practicality.

Can all Slyde handboard sizes fit in this bag?

Yes, this is a universal handboard bag that will fit all SLYDE handboard sizes and models. The Wedge, Phish, and Grom are the largest handboards on the market and these easily fit in the SLYDE handboard bag. It is designed to accommodate all sizes so you do not have to worry about you handboard not fitting into this carry case.

Can you remove the shoulder strap?

Yes. If you do not need to use the shoulder strap, you can remove it from the Slyde bag. This is done by easily unhooking the clips from the eye hook.

Is the Slyde handboard bag waterproof?

Yes, this handboard is water-resistant. You can safely store your phone and other belongings without fear of it getting damaged from water.

Can the Slyde handboard bag also carry my fins?

Yes. You can carry your fins by attaching them to your shoulder strap. Note that the bag is too small to actually fit your fins inside of it so you need to use your shoulder strap to hold them.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Unhook the shoulder strap from the eye hook
  1. Guide the shoulder strap through the fin heel straps or open pocket
  1. Re-clip the bag eye hook.

Now your swim fins are hanging securely from your bag! This method of carrying your fins will also help to keep from losing them when you travel.

How much does the Slyde handboard bag cost?

The Slyde handboard bag costs $26 + shipping fees. This is very affordable and well worth the investment to protect and carry your bag. This has saved my board more times than I can count.

Alternatives to using a Slyde handboard bag

What else can you use instead of a Slyde handboard bag? At the beginning of this article, I mentioned a few other options for carrying your handboard.

Backpack / Daypack

You can use a regular surf backpack which should be large enough to store your board and possibly more. I sometimes use the bag in the image below if I need to take more than one board or want to pack a towel and some food.

The backpack is a convenient way to hold your handboard while traveling to the beach. There are multiple pockets to hold accessories, snacks, and belongings. The only downside is that sometimes backpacks can take up extra space.

Duffle Bag

A bodysurfing handboard can easily fit inside a duffle bag or gym bag. Wrap it in your beach towel before you place it in your duffel to minimize sliding and protect the integrity of your board.

A duffle bag is fairly large. I like to travel light to the beach so this would not be my first option. However, it will still work if you have nothing else to carry your board.

Drawstring Bag

This is my “go-to” carry bag and honestly I love it. I have been using the NIKE Brasilia Gymsack pictured below for over a year and there are hardly any signs of wear and tear.

It is just but big enough to fit the Slyde Wedge handboard, which is the largest board on the market. It can also store my other belongings (i.e. phone, sunscreen, keys, wallet, and camera). You can pick up the same drawstring bag for cheap here. It is very strong and lightweight. It can easily be folded and stored when not being used.

The only downside is the lack of padding. It is a minimalist bag so the material is very thin as you can tell from the images above. There, it won’t do a good job protecting your board from dings.
