  1. Remove the plastic wrapping
  2. Pull out the cardboard tab on one end of the box
  3. Pull out the end flap to expose the handboard

  5. Slide the handboard out of the box

I know opening a box may seem like a simple task but for me the struggle was real! Feel free to laugh at my pain as this post is absolutely humiliating but also educational at the same time. For the sake of preventing your own embarrassment, the rest of this guide takes you step-by-step on exactly how to unbox your handboard with pictures and a video!

how to unbox your handboard correctly

This quick tutorial will clearly show you how to remove your Slyde handboard. After watching this, you will be able to easily remove your board quickly with ease. Also, these instructions will prevent you from damaging the package contents and avoid scratching your board so put away the scissors!

Below are the step-by-step instructions mentioned in the video to help you follow along. If you do not like watching videos then feel free to skip to step #1.

step 1 – remove the plastic wrappig

When you receive your handboard, you will notice that the box is surrounded by some thin saran wrap. Before you begin unboxing you will have to remove this plastic wrapping. Simply tear it away from the box with your hands and discard it in the trash.

step 2 – pull out the tab on one end of the box

Next, you will notice tabs on either end of the Slyde handboard packaging. These tabs are located on the nose end of the packaging and the tail end.

The tab will be sealed closed with a small piece of tape. Simply break the seal by gently slicing it with a sharp edge. Once the adhesive seal is broken, slide the cardboard tab out completely from its original position.

The tab is located below the Slyde logo on either side of the box. Make sure to slide the tab all the way out so it looks similar to the image above.

step 3 – slide out the carboard end flap

You will notice there is a cardboard flap folded into the box that was being held closed by the tab you just pulled out in the previous step. Stick your finger in the semi-circle indentation (circled in red) and pull up to slide this flap out from the box. This will expose one end of your handboard.

The semi-circle indent for your finger is located directly beneath the logo on either side of the box. This is the flap that you need to pull open.
You want to pull it up and away so it is fully open. This will reveal your handboard and internal support packaging.

step 4 – pull out the top internal cardboard support

Inside the box, you will notice internal cardboard support packaging that secures the handboard in place. This prevents it from moving during shipment. There are 3 flaps: left, right, and top. I have circled them in red in the image below to help you locate them.

This is what the internal cardboard support structure looks like, which keeps your board in place and prevents it from moving or getting damaged during shipping.

The key supporting cardboard piece is the top flap featured in the image below. Use some strength to pull this tab out and away from the box. Once you have done that, the board will be released from the internal support.

This is the top support tab that you need to dislodge by pulling it outwards.
Pull the top support tab in the direction of the arrow. It will simply slide out and look like this when done. The handboard will become loose as it is liberated from its internal support.

step 5 – slide your handboard out of the box

Now that the board is released, remove the handboard from its packaging. As you start sliding the handboard out from the box, remember to push the hand strap down while pulling the top of the cardboard box upwards.

This action will provide the handstrap enough clearance to exit the packaging. Otherwise, the handstrap will get caught on the edge of the box and prevent you from removing the handboard completely.

Applying pressure with your hand in the directions of the arrows will help you remove your entire hand from the box.

Notice the technique that I used in the image above to remove my handboard. I push the cardboard top upward with my fingertips while pushing the handboard strap downward with my knuckles. While performing this action, use your other hand to slide your handboard out from the box.

Viola! You have just removed your Slyde handboard.

Related Questions:

why shouldn’t I damage the packaging?

Preserving the integrity of the packaging is important in case you need to return it or if you want to resell your board. The resale value will be higher if the packaging remains intact. This will prove to be beneficial if you plan to resell online as the boxing will not only help to maintain the value but also protect the board during shipment.

should I use scissors?

I would not recommend using scissors to remove your handboard from its packaging. If you are not careful, you can accidentally scratch your handboard with the sharp edges. Plus, cutting up the box will ruin a perfect shipping package if you decide to return it to Slyde or sell it online.

what if I accidentally damage the board during unboxing?

Feel free to get in contact with Slyde Handboards regarding their return policy for damaging the board during unboxing. However, if you follow my 5 simple steps for safely and easily removing your board then you should not have an issue.
